Some people are insane.
If Barack Obama is elected president, mutual friends say the best course for Hillary Clinton might be nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court rather than staying in the Senate.Can you imagine what it would be like to have a random unqualified moron serving on the Supreme Court just because she's a woman, tipping the close ideological balance of the Court with incoherent decisions that ruin constitutional law for decades?
It would be madness.

I must say that I'm rather tired of this prolonged casting-about for a consolation prize of some sort for Mrs. Clinton. If we can get all up and agoggle about her place in the new order to come, why not ask the same questions about the candidates who lose the actual election? "Cabinet position for Bob Dole?" "SCOTUS seat for Al Gore?" These candidates enjoy more popular acclaim than any mere loser of a nomination run-off, so these are the sort of editorial headlines we should be seeing (well, should have been seeing).
If we're being consistent, I mean. I'd personally rather we be consistent in the other direction and just start ignoring Clinton like we're ignoring Giuliani Huckabee Romney Edwards and those other guys.
