On Rush

People are criticizing Rush Limbaugh; other people are responding. Bored yet? Stick with me for another few sentences.

The weirdest aspect of the issue is where the criticism is originating: Obama and his cronies. Because Obama just won handily and strengthened his party's position in Congress to the point that liberalism dominates two branches of government (let's not go down the judiciary rabbit-hole today), it's a strange time to want to crush dissent. The elections appear to have done that for you.

So, are establishment lefties insecure? I don't have the qualifications to evaluate their mental health, but it sure seems bizarre to worry about some guy whose audience is too busy being angry to vote for a credible mainstream candidate. That's exactly what happened last cycle: Rush's audience hated McCain, and McCain lost! Maybe Obama should send a thank-you card instead of evidencing a weird psychological complex.

I had another explanation for it, where Obama is just trying to enforce the Rousseauian general will he thinks he embodies, but it's complicated. And less fun.

I credit the recent tension with reminding me that Rush Limbaugh still exists. He seemed like he was on the way out even when I first heard of him - as a ten-year-old boy reading Mad Magazine. Look how far he's come etc.
